Why Not Me?

We invite you to join us at the May luncheon to hear our guest speaker, Yrma Rico.

Yrma Rico’s talk, “Why Not Me?,” is a motivational presentation that encourages women to continue on a road to success in their professional careers. She will tell her story from where she started and where she is now to inspire women to always keep trying.

Ms. Yrma Rico is known to everyone as “RICO” and can be described as a cheerleader and a combination of Martha Stewart and Bill Gates. She brings enthusiasm, nurturing, and collaboration to all aspects of her life whether personal or business.

Rico is the former president and dealer operator of Weber BMW located in Fresno, CA. Weber BMW is a full service center that sells new and Certified Pre-Owned BMW’s along with other makes and model vehicles. Over the years, Weber BMW has help support various charities in the Fresno area.

Rico is one of eight children from Mexican-born migrant workers; she began her work as an agricultural laborer, but moved quickly into Spanish/English translations for a dental office in Orange Cove, CA. She then went to Fresno for a sales position with Univision Ch.21. After several years in Fresno she relocated to Bristol R.I. as local sales manager with a Fox Network affiliate. In 1992, Rico moved to Denver as the general manager for the Univision affiliate. During her tenure as general manager she was instrumental in significantly increasing the station's revenue as well as developing and launching a weekly local 5 PM and 10 PM newscasts.

Additionally, Rico was a founding partner of Entravision, a $425 million diversified Spanish language communications corporation. Combining television, radio, and outdoor advertising Entravision was able to reach approximately 80% of the U.S. Hispanic population and border markets of Mexico. Entravision is the largest affiliate group of the top-rated Univision television network, with outlets in 18 of the nation's top-50 Hispanic markets.

Rico is the author of the published 2004 book by McGraw-Hill “La Vida Rica” which has also been quoted in the summer 2013 Cosmopolitan for Latinas. Rico recently sold Weber BMW, and sits on various boards though out the Fresno Central Valley and supports community events.
